Christmas and Hot Chocolate. Can you even have Christmas without hot chocolate? My family can’t! My Maw Maw used to make the best hot cocoa. It’s sweet, creamy, and chocolatey! Anything and everything you could want in a hot cocoa. My dad now has the recipe and makes it for us every Christmas. If we’re lucky, he also makes it when we go look at Christmas lights. This year, we made a spur of the moment decision to go Christmas light looking. Sadly, my dad didn’t have enough time to make us Maw Maw’s famous hot chocolate. I have been wanting to make a “skinny” version of her hot cocoa and this gave me the perfect chance! I love love love my Maw Maw’s hot chocolate, but it is definitely not light or skinny. Her hot cocoa doesn’t cut any corners when it comes to calories. Great to have a couple times a year, but not every day! Everything in moderation right?
My version of Maw Maw’s hot cocoa still has that delicious chocolatey taste, but half the calories. I know what you’re thinking. Skinny Hot Chocolate… does it exist? Can you make a hot cocoa that still tastes good, but without all the calories? Do they all taste like the one that Sandra Bullock spits out in Miss Congeniality? Nope! Not mine!
The secret to this skinny hot cocoa is the Unsweetened Silk Cashew Milk. One cup of cashew milk is just 25 calories! It still has all that milky creaminess. My recipe makes either two small glasses or one big glass. If, you need more just double or triple the recipe.
The best part about this hot cocoa is that my family approves! They did tell me to warn you- it’s super chocolatey and rich. I hope thats okay with ya’ll! If not, add a little more cashew milk. Mmmm!
