Happy Thanksgiving Y’all! With the Holidays right around the corner, eating healthy is more challenging than ever! Since I am now a “registered dietitian nutritionist” all of my family assumes that I am super healthy and never eat anything “bad”. That is sooooo not true! I just want to be like I am human too people! I LOVE sweets; probably more than anyone I know. The key here is moderation. Do I love sweets? YES! Am I going to eat them for every meal? No! Would I like to? Yes! Get my point?
Over the next month and a half, everyone will be tempted with delicious foods, beverages, and of course desserts. Don’t miss out on your holiday favorites just because you are scared of gaining a couple pounds. Instead eat everything in moderation! You want some pecan pie? Sure have some, but make it a small slice. You want some cornbread and sweet potato pie? Have that too, but don’t let it take up your whole plate. Try to fill 1/2 of your thanksgiving plate with non starchy veggies like green beans, carrots, salad, etc. Then fill the other half with your meat, sweet potato pie, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. This way, you will fill up on the nutritious veggies, but you still get to enjoy your holiday favorites! Life is too short to miss out on the delicious things in life. Enjoy it! Just don’t eat the whole pie!
Happy Holidays!
